Philippe Wynne

Soul From SugarHill

CD

"Philippe Wynne was best known as the lead voice with the (Detroit) Spinners on their early ‘70s Atlantic hits including ‘I’ll Be Around’, ‘Could It Be I’m Falling In Love’, ‘Then Came You’ and ‘Rubberband Man’ (his nickname) produced in Philadelphia by Thom Bell. Obliged to leave the group due to ill-health, he recorded solo for Cotillion before joining George Clinton’s Funkadelic Revue, and then cut his final album for SugarHill in 1984, produced by Bunny Sigler, featuring his melifluous, warm baritone voice on a range of Philly-styled material, from which the insistent beat-ballad ‘You Ain’t Going Anywhere But Gone’ was an R&B hit. Shout! Records present the opportunity to hear his distinctive voice on these fine performances for the first time since the early ‘90’s, comprising Wynne’s last solo album plus two bonus tracks from the SugarHill catalogue including one which features Philippe as guest vocalist".
