"Kent's 'Birth Of Soul' series branches out with the first of their special editions, all focusing on cities that made especially significant contributions towards the evolution and arrival of 1960s soul. These will span a wider timeframe than regular Birth Of Soul compilations. None of the tracks will have appeared elsewhere on Ace or Kent.

 

This Chicago edition features many of the Windy City's most famous names. Highlights include both sides of Major Lance's debut Mercury 45 and a 'holy grail' for all collectors - Jerry Butler and the Impressions' original 1957 demo of 'For Your Precious Love'."
