Bolstered by the presence and raised public awareness afforded by 1971’s Christmas UK Number One single, in the title track, this LP proved very popular upon its release and is still every bit as amusing almost forty years later. Many will be familiar with poor old Ernie’s tale, but also explored here are the exploits of other Hill creations (principally of the female variety, naturally), alongside some hugely clever wordplay numbers ('Broken Hearted Lover’s Stew' in particular is quite astounding) and some of his spoken word and dialogue pieces (performed in front of a live audience)".
